NORTHERN PUG DOG CLUB HEALTH ASSESSMENT
Please Note– There is now a formal Kennel Club scheme for BOAS grading in some brachycephalic breeds. The new scheme is called the Respiritory Function Grading Scheme. The scheme was produced by the Kennel Club in conjunction with Cambridge University.
Please note that all those pugs who took part in BOAS, tested prior to Feb 2019 will still be eligible to utilise their results for the requirements of the NPDC National Health Scheme using the health scheme requirements prior to the recent amendments.
VETERINARIAN AND OWNER NOTES
PUGS TO BE TESTED FROM 12 MONTHS OF AGE – KC Registration Number, Name, date of birth, sex, colour and microchip number must be included on all test results.
A BRONZE CERTIFICATE WILL NOT BE ISSUED IF THE PUG DOES NOT MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:
Clear Heart – referred to a cardiologist (if abnormality found)
Eyes – with any conditions that are detrimental to the dog’s health
Any sign of aggression.

TO PROGRESS TO THE SILVER LEVEL:
The following criteria must be met:
A SILVER CERTIFICATE WILL NOT BE ISSUED FOR PUGS THAT ARE:
Grade 3 for BOAS or Respiratory Function Grading or have received treatment for BOAS should not be bred from.
Patella Graded 3 or 4.
TO PROGRESS TO THE GOLD CERTIFICATE:
You must include a stamped self-addressed envelope to receive your Certificate, plus four unused 1st class stamps. The stamps go towards the admin costs of the Scheme.
You will not receive your Certificate without a SAE and 4 unused stamps.
